Hendy Woods

Next up will be the Hendy Hermit hunt as we dare to inhabit the Hendy Hermit haunt, Hendy Woods. That’s his hut up there. Stay tuned. If we don’t return by 2010, call the ranger.

Don Pedro is a drink

Richard’s trip to Don Pedro was pleasant getaway from work while Judy traveled around France with Marianne and Bryn. The campground was nearly empty and the lake was 85% full. The weather was mild with a few showers. Temperature was around 80 degrees all week. Paul came by Tuesday evening and stayed in the tent conveniently pitched that morning. Wednesday after breakfast was fishing and boating day – all day on the lake, fishing every technique but, alas, catching zip. Paul left around 4:00 and Chris and Matthew showed up at around 4:20 looking for Paul…seems an unexpected call to duty for the new school board member. Matthew is now nearing Richard’s height looking less like a boy and more like a man all the time. Wednesday evening there was a beautiful show of lightning and thunder with rain that came straight down while the campfire managed to survive and impart that warm glow around the camp and in one’s soul. That evening there was no one in the campground except Richard. The Ranger even stopped making his rounds.
A drink was invented on this trip. Having been well tested every evening it will be a staple for Richard from here on. It’s sort of like a Lolita but with pomegranate juice. It has a couple of other twists to the recipe which will be imparted to those who ask. It’s sweet and tangy with salt on the rim. It’s called a Don Pedro.

Here is the site of that invention

Travel plans ahead!

Coming up is a relatively quick trip to Scottsdale in May for Bryn’s graduation. The trailer stays at home for that one. Judy will be traveling to France in May/June with Marianne and Bryn, a nice graduation present for the college bound scientist. Judy has been heard talking to herself in her office during the last few weeks & sometimes out in the yard - but not to worry - she is doing her French lesson! While Judy is touring through Paris and Normandy Richard will be camping up at Don Pedro and bobbing about in a fishing boat trying to round up some breakfast trout or a catfish dinner.

Next on the horizon will be Fort Stevens in northern Oregon for a big group camp and the traditional Bouillabaisse feast in August. After that the peripatetic duo begins detailed planning and makes ferry reservations for a two month trip to Alaska and a visit with the newest member of the family, Maya Elsie, in the spring of 2010. Updates to follow…
